How Maui brought fire to the world

One day after a big meal Maui stared at his fire and thought, “Were does fire come from". Maui was curious so he decided to find out. That night when everyone was asleep, Maui sneaked out and extinguished all the fires in the world. He then went back to the whare and waited. The next morning there was uproar in the village. All the village people were frightened all the fires were gone. They called for Taranga, he was there Rangarira and he solved all there problems. “Someone needs to get some fire from the goddess," Mahuika” Taranga said. None of the villagers wanted to go to the scorching mountain where she lived so Maui offered happily because  his plan is working. Maui reached the red hot mountain; he said a karakia before entering. Mahuika was as red as a fox, her eyes were black holes. Maui explained to Mahuika that all the fire is gone and they need some more, so she gave to Maui her nail of fire. As Maui walked he thought “what if Mahuika had no fire left” he then through the nail in the lake and asked for another one and through this one away to. He then went back for another one; Mahuika did not suspect it was a trick. This happened for a long time until Mahuika was furious and through a toe nail on the ground. Maui was surrounded by flames. Maui turned into a hawk and flew away but the flames singed his wings so he flew into a lake. But the heat of the fire boiled the water and Maui called on his ancestor Tawhirimatea.  A lot of clouds came and all the fires including the mountain no longer were burning. In anger Mahuika through her last toe nail at Maui but missed and hit the Mahoe, Totara, Patete, Pukatea and the Kaikomako trees and cherished in Mahuikas fire. When Maui returned to the village he didn’t have fire but he teaches them to make fire with the trees that Mahuika burnt. Now to this day the native Kahu hawk of aotearoa still has the red singed mark underneath its wing from when Maui changed into a hawk.

Fingerprints.

Fingerprints are amazing if you think about it because if you look at all of your fingerprints they will all look different. All fingers have different patterns in there print. Fingerprint have one or more of a L.A.W which stands for loop, arch and whorl. Also fingerprints can be a source of evidence in a crime scene for example: If a forensic scientist found a fingerprint at a crime scene they can match it to a suspects
fingerprint. Fingers have fraction ridges which are raised portions of an epidermis that’s on your palms, fingers, soles and toe skin. To find a fingerprint most of the time scientist use this magic chemical powder so that they can see in better.
